Sun, Nov 20, 2011
Fontwell Park was highly commended at the Racecourse Association's Showcase Awards. The course was one of five tracks short listed for an award which recognised the importance of improving the race day experience for customers. Hamilton Park were the winners.
The awards celebrated the innovation and excellence being shown across Britain's 60 racecourses. There were six categories including Raceday Experience. The entry from Fontwell Park outlined the approach to improving the customer experience at the Royal Wedding Race Night in April.
The course arranged a wide range of additional entertainment with a 'British' theme to coincide with racing on the same day as the marriage of Prince William to Kate Middleton. The management team even persuaded local trainer Nick Gifford to run his horse called Royal Wedding on the night. The horse read the script and won the opening race and story went around the world with coverage in country's including the United States and Australia.
The theme was well received by customers with the attendance 100% up on the equivalent race meeting in 2010.
