Lough Derg Retired
Thu, Dec 1, 2011
Lough Derg, one of the most popular horses to race at Fontwell Park in recent years, has been retired. The eleven year, owned by Bill Frewen, won the National Spirit Hurdle in 2008 and 2009 and amassed a total of £374,000 in prize money in his eight year career. He won a total of 12 of his 61 races and was ridden in most of his races by Tom Scudamore. Known as 'Douglas' in the yard of trainer David Pipe, Lough Derg will be remembered as one of the toughest long distance hurdlers to grace the jump racing stage since 2003. Officials at Fontwell Park are hoping to name a race after him in 2012.
