NEW GRANDSTAND
Construction of New Grandstand to begin in Summer 09
Wed, Oct 29, 2008
The construction of a new £7.5m Grandstand in the Premier Enclosure at Fontwell Park Racecourse will now start in the summer of 2009.
The commencement of the building of the Grandstand will coincide with the summer break in 2009 fixture list. The decision to move the start date is principally to achieve the most competitive tender for the works. It is believed that significant savings can be found by tendering the scheme in March rather than prior to Christmas.
The opening of the new facility is now expected to be in August 2010.
Fontwell Park General Manager Phil Bell said:"We are looking to benefit from market conditions and the advice we have received is that there will be a significant advantage in tendering this project in the Spring of 2009. In addition, it gives us the opportunity to use the summer break in 2010 as a period in which we can prepare the Grandstand for its opening."
The new Premier Grandstand will be an impressive three-storey development complete with twelve private hospitality boxes on the top floor, a glass fronted hospitality/banqueting lounge for 250 people on the middle floor and a multi-purpose hall on the ground floor with new catering and betting facilities.
As well as offering state of art facilities on race days, the stand will be hired seven days a week for events including weddings, banqueting, conferences and exhibitions. Race meetings will continue to take place during the construction period.
The planning application will be heard on Wednesday 5th November by Arun District Council.
Go-ahead for New £7.5m Fontwell Grandstand
Tue, Jul 1, 2008
The board of Northern Racing has given approval for the development of a new £7.5m Grandstand in the Premier Enclosure at Fontwell Park Racecourse in West Sussex.
Architects have been appointed to produce a three-story building complete with twelve private hospitality boxes on the top floor, a glass fronted hospitality/banqueting lounge for 250 people on the middle floor and a multi-purpose hall on the ground floor with new catering and betting facilities.
The project managers for the scheme are Arcadis AYH and the architects are Manchester based AFL.
It promises to be one of the best Grandstands in the country. As well as being used for more than twenty race meetings a year, the stand will be hired seven days a week for events including weddings, conferences and exhibitions.
Detailed plans will be completed this summer with a planning application being submitted to Arun District Council in August/September. Once planning approval has been granted the stand is expected to take 14 months to build.
Race meetings will continue to take place during the construction period.
Fontwell Park was purchased by Northern Racing in 2002 and every year since has shown consistent growth in attendances, hospitality, sponsorship and non-race day business.
